ooooh. my China guidebook (bought in anticipation of crashing your pad someday) mentioned the humble administrator's garden, but WOW your pictures make it look so much more enticing.
as for apartment gardening books, i will officially go on the hunt for you. you'll have to let me know what the cheapest way to ship to China is.
Wow! Absolute-Lee beautiful! Texture, color, composition, repetitive motifs, and yet uncluttered. Makes me rethink my English Garden approach. I couldn't help but notice the lack of paper and garbage. Is this the usual case, or are the gardens an exception?
I'll speak to the garbage situation. There is a lot of littering in China, but there is also an army of little old ladies picking it up (no doubt for very low wages). It isn't so bad in the gardens, but even there you will find bits of garbage stuck in the cracks. Sometimes it isn't bits, I've seen dirty diapers, and all the packaging for an entire meal from KFC. In any case, it is often easy enough to leave garbage out of the photos.
